who are we?

We are a 3-person family that consists of 1 woman named Lily, 1 man named Kevin, and 1 baby boy named Lucas. Lily is the one who writes this blog, though she often includes tidbits by Kevin. Our anniversary is 21 December, 2006, so we have been married over 5 years. We have known each other since I was 14 and he was 15, though! We all live in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home.

I am Lily. Yes, I am a new mother, but there’s more to me than meets the eye. I am 26 years old. I live in California and always have, except for during the summer of 2002 when I lived in France. That is how I learned French. And that is why I majored in French while in university. However, I had to leave school during my third year, due to severe anorexia nervosa. For many years, I struggled and struggled to keep my head above water, but after finding Christ in 2009, I am finally swimming! In 2010, I trained for and ran the Nike Women’s Marathon while also raising 2700$ for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I also ran several half-marathons, including one while I was 7 weeks pregnant! :) I’m currently becoming more and more interested in natural and organic products. Because of a condition called Raynaud’s Phenomenon of the nipples, I was unable to breastfeed or pump without experiencing severe pain and sensitivity. I had to stop both when Lucas was about 7 weeks. Up until Lucas was 24 weeks old, he would drink organic formula and 8-12 ounces of donor breastmilk per day. After that, I found another amazing donor who made it possible for Lucas to only have breastmilk (as well as solids, which we started at 6 months). As of December 2011, I decided to start cloth diapering, as well as eating more organic products. I plan on making my son’s baby food, as well, since I like to cook! Basically, my parenting style is: natural-birthing, bottle-nursing (donor breastmilk and some organic formula), babywearing, cloth-diapering, crib-sleeping, no crying-it-out, spread-out vaccinating (only a couple vaccinations per month), attachment parenting intactivist.

This is Kevin. He is a new father, but there is more to him than meets the eye. He is 26 years old. He has also lived in California all his life. Kevin has an incredible sense of humour, which I often include in my blog. He is patient and supportive, despite all we’ve been through. He works for an engineering company as the lead software analyst and computer programmer, and so he is obviously a huge “tech” geek. Faith-wise, Kevin is an atheist, so we are still unsure how we can come to a compromise on raising our child.

This is Lucas Dean. He was born on 15 September, 2011. He is our miracle baby, as we tried to conceive for a year using low-dose hormones. He is a VERY active, wild little boy. He has been able to lift his head from the moment his daddy placed him on his momma’s breast. (Read about his completely natural birth HERE.) He was able to roll over from his belly to back before he was even 2 months old, and has the biggest smile ever! Lucas doesn’t really like his pacifier very much, but he does love his hands (especially his thumb!). He sleeps soundly in his crib at night and is finally getting the hang of naps during the day (after 4.5 months of only napping in Momma’s arms). He is extremely talkative and loves to laugh at the goofiest things. Lucas definitely is a Momma’s Boy, and is constantly growing and changing…
